MATCH REPORT: KURRI COBRAS VS NEPEAN MUMBIES - Loxford Park Speedway Kurri Kurri 14th April 2012
posted 15 April, 2011

On a freshly laid surface Round One of the Winter Team Series was held in cloudy but warm conditions, Both Teams performed well and the racing was fantastic, with spectators getting plenty of action. The score was tight throughout the match with the Cobras sneaking ahead thanks to a great team ride from Jake Allen and Luke Richards in Heat 8, this score broke the deadlock on the scoresheet and the Cobras were in the lead 26 - 22, Heat thirteen would prove critical to the outcome of the match and it was a superb inside move by Joey Ringwood on inside of leader Cobra Tim Heffernan that opened the chance for Harley Horwood to sneak through and join his team mate on a 5 – 1 score. A drawn heat 14 meant the Cobras could not win the match going into Heat 15; again it was rider of the match Joey Ringwood who teamed this time with Jay Herne to inflict another maximum heat advantage to finish the match. Special mention to the Queensland based riders who made the trip down and take their spots in the match and to all riders who supported the teams match challenge.

Division 2 solos
The division 2 riders are the up and coming riders just learning their trade on the 500cc machines and judging by the level of skill these boys will be knocking on the door of division 1 very soon. Haydon Bond who also rides a 1000cc sidecar and had a very busy day at the races, both boys competed against the big boys in the sidecar ranks  but also ride 500 solo’s, with Haydon winning the final and Brady also riding his 500 solo gaining 3rd in the final. Local rider Jye Etheridge was very impressive and is showing rapid improvement. Darren Sydenham travelled from Queensland and was impressive on the track.

A final result,
1st   -  Haydon Bond
2nd  -  Jye Ethheridge
3rd   -  Brady Cox
4th   - Darren Sydenham  (F)

Junior 350 solo Final:
Some great action from the junior 350 boys, Jack Holder was unbeaten on the day but had some good scraps in the first corner with Josh Fletcher and Ellis Perks. Max Croker and Lawson Walters also dabble in road racing and are both very competitive on the tar, both boys love their speedway bikes and they show skill way beyond their age, hopefully both will decide to follow the speedway career as both boys have a big future on the dirt. Josh Fletcher rode very well on a demanding track and is stepping to the next level, the future looks bright for all of these riders when they move up to the senior ranks.

A final result
1st  -  Jack Holder
2nd  - Josh Fletcher
3rd  -  Jordan Dall

Sidecars;
A good line-up of sidecar teams were on hand to entertain the crowd and that’s exactly what they did, the presence of world No 1 Darrin Treloar and world No 3 Grant Bond made for an exciting afternoon of chair action, with the track offering some nice grip the experience of Team Treloar was evident, next best team Bond and Cox were also using the meeting to iron out any bugs for the upcoming Australian Championships at Maryborough. Team Hinton , team Bond/Cox (Haydon and Brady) and the Hudson Teams gave plenty of competition to the more experienced teams on the day. Team Treloar winning the meeting on points.
Solo Junior 125;

A total of 12 juniors contested their first winter series points score for 2012, on a heavy track the all the boys showed great skill. Denny Cox was top scorer in the heats tied with Boyd Hollis, both boys dropping one point in the heats. Isaac Hawes was in the action all day along with Karl Lawler and Jimmy Jones, the little brother in the Cox family Liam Cox had a mixed day but managed a heat win and battled hard, Brady Taggert, Mitchell Cluff, and the youngest of the Bond clan Jack Bond all rode well also Liam Tracey and  Sam Campbell were impressive.

The A final was a torrid affair, from the start Denny Cox took command with Boyd Hollis, Isaac Hawes and B final winner Jimmy Jones  in Hot pursuit, on the end of the third lap Denny’s machine gave up the ghost coming off the 4th turn with Boyd on his tail having to crash into Denny bringing both boys down ,meanwhile Isaac and Jimmy both avoided the riders and machines and  crossed the line for the last lap the unlucky Boyd Hollis had remounted to also pass the start line for the last lap,  the referee at the same time brought a halt to the race and when the dust had settled the race was awarded with Isaac taking the win ,Jimmy Jones 2nd and Boyd Hollis who was terribly disadvantaged  taking 3rd,poor Denny was left with a blown engine. Credit to all boys in the final as the decision from the ref was accepted without any problems each congratulating each other on the days racing.

Rider
1/ Jimmy Jones      3, 2, 1, ef, 3      = 9
2/ Karl Lawler         2, 3, 1, 1, 2       = 9
3/ Brady Taggert    1, 2, 2, 1, 1       = 7
4/ Lawson Walters – engine expired in the pits and withdrew
5/ Liam Cox          F, 1, 2, 3, 2        = 8
6/ Denny Cox        3, 3, 2, 3, 3        = 14
7/ Isaac Hawes      2, 2, 3, 3, 2        = 12

A big thanks to the Kurri Club and Peter Campton who was ill all week but still kept the track in top order all day for the riders.
Round 2 of the Teams match will be held on 29th April at the Nepean Speedway venue starting at 10am.
